The NT’s NYW Young Member
The Territory’s Young Member plays a huge part in the success of National Youth Week (NYW). The young person selected to be the NT’s NYW Ambassador has a dual role to play – at the national as well as the Territory level. On a Territory level, the Young Member provides a youth perspective in the planning, implementation and evaluation of National Youth Week. One of the key roles involves promoting events to young people and the community in the lead-up to and during NYW.
Hi! My name is Kenneth Kadirgamar. I was born in Sri Lanka and like many Sri Lankans, I love my cricket. I have been playing it for as long as I can remember and couldn’t imagine my life without it. I also have a great passion for public speaking and have been involved in many speaking competitions and debating for many years. It is a great privilege to be chosen as the Territory’s National Youth Week Young Member for 2012. I hope that I will be able to represent the views of young people in the NT to the best of my ability and make sure that National Youth Week continues to flourish throughout the NT and around Australia. |
1. Name: Kenneth Emmanuel Kadirgamar
3. Occupation: Full time Bachelor of Engineering Student at Charles Darwin University
4. What is your favourite thing about living in the Northern Territory? I love the people and the laid back lifestyle of the Territory. It feels really good to walk down streets where almost every person you meet smiles and has the time to say G'Day.
5. What is your favourite thing about National Youth Week? I love the fact that National Youth Week gives young people an opportunity to have their voices heard. It is also nothing short of a celebration of young people all over the Country.
6. Why should people in the Territory get involved with National Youth Week? I believe that it is really important that all young people get involved in National Youth Week primarily because the more people get involved, the more it helps to shape the way young people are portrayed in the media. It is time that we showed the wider community why the future is in capable hands.
7. Which person in the world inspires you the most, and why? I get inspired every day when I hear about stories of young people, who through hard work and determination have been able to achieve their dreams. They are all living proofs that no matter what your background or social status, the only prerequisite to success is to never give up!!
8. What would you do if you were the only person left on the Earth? I guess it would be a pretty lonely life I would lead. It would be fun at first, spending all day lounging around, playing the Xbox and exploring. The first thing I would do would be to go over to America and live in the White House for a bit. But it would get very boring very quickly and I would soon have to start my search for life on another planet or something.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the work, where would it be and why?
I would go to Europe, I have always wanted to go there, but I haven't gotten the chance yet.
10. If you were lucky enough to win the lottery, what would you do?
I would put it all into a savings account and the interest gained from it would be used for a scholarship fund for a hard working young person in a developing nation to go to university.
